LUMINISCENCE NYC: St. Patrick’s Cathedral Becomes a 360° Immersive Light Show

You have seen St. Patrick’s Cathedral from Fifth Avenue. Now you can experience it in a completely different way.

LUMINISCENCE, a 360-degree immersive light and sound experience, has arrived at the iconic Midtown cathedral, transforming its Neo-Gothic architecture into a giant moving canvas of light, music, and storytelling. It is the first time the internationally touring experience has come to New York City.

The experience takes place inside the cathedral at 631 Fifth Avenue, between 50th and 51st Streets, where projections stretch across the walls, ceilings, arches, and architectural details. Instead of simply watching a screen, you are sitting inside the experience as the building itself becomes part of the show.

LUMINISCENCE is a 45-minute experience that takes visitors through three acts: Gathering, Community, and Nation. The story explores the cathedral's history and the communities, challenges, and resilience connected to this New York landmark.

There is also a pre-show experience where you can walk through the cathedral, take in the architecture and artwork, and hear live musicians before the main show begins.

And then the lights go down.

The 360-degree projections begin moving across the cathedral while music fills the space, creating a completely different way to experience one of NYC's most recognizable buildings. The experience is narrated by actor, Jonathan Roumie, known for *The Chosen*.

Go for the music, too

On select evenings, LUMINISCENCE LIVE+ adds a live orchestra and choir to the immersive projections. The combination of the cathedral's architecture, live music, and projection mapping makes these special performances particularly different from the standard experience.

The show is also connected to the preservation of the cathedral. According to the organizers, ticket-sale profits will support the restoration of St. Patrick's historic Kilgen organ.
